BA cabin crew strike vote result expected today
28.03.11
British Airways is expected to face the renewed threat of strikes by its cabin crew after the result of the latest ballot in a long-running dispute is announced today. Thousands of members of Unite have been voting for a fifth time in two years on whether to launch a fresh waves of strikes over their deadlocked row with the airline.
The cabin crew are expected to back industrial action, raising the prospect of strikes over Easter, although union bosses have previously said they would not target the holiday period, or the Royal Wedding weekend.
The dispute started almost two and a half years ago over cost cutting, but now includes other issues such as the removal of travel concessions from those who went on strike, and disciplinary action against a number of Unite members.
Unite is not expected to name any strike dates, but will use it as a negotiating point in fresh talks with the airline to try to resolve the dispute. It would need to give at least seven days notice of any strike dates.
