Greenpeace wants to build Heathrow fortress
28.01.10
Architects have been invited by Greenpeace to design an ‘impenetrable fortress’ to block land earmarked for a third runway at Heathrow Airport. The campaign group plans to build the winning design - we assume after receiving planning permission - in the village of Sipson as soon as possible unless the new runway and terminal plan is abandoned.
The charity bought an acre of land at the site last year and sold ownership in tiny parcels to more than 60,000 people in a bid to create legal obstacles to delay or stop the airport expansion scheme. However, it was revealed earlier this week that a quarter of Sipson residents have offered to sell up to BAA since last October.
