British Airways has cancelled a number of flights to the US East Coast, with Hurricane Irene expected to cause problems over the weekend. The airline has cancelled some flights set to leave for the US today, and all ten of those due to depart to New York tomorrow.
Experts predict Irene will be the worst storm since Katrina ripped through New Orleans in 2005. New York's transport systems, including the subways and airports, are to shut from 12:00 today (17:00 UK time). Evacuations have been ordered in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and Delaware and US airlines have already canceled hundreds of domestic and international flights.
