Weather hits Heathrow flights

Thunderstorms and high winds led to the cancellation of around 80 flights in and out of Heathrow yesterday between 16:00 and 19:00. The timetable returned to normal by 21:30 and today's schedule is unaffected.
Wind gusts at Heathrow reached up to 41 mph (66 kph) and the area around the airport saw consistent lightning strikes yesterday afternoon. An airport spokesman said: ‘Due to localised thunderstorms and high winds, unfortunately we had to cancel some flights affecting a number of airlines.’
