A cabin crew member paid a heavy price for turning up to work at British Airways nearly four times over the alcohol limit. Maria MacDonald-Bell, of Claxton Grove, Hammersmith, was removed from the flight at Heathrow Terminal Five on April 10. A blood test found the 48-year-old had 79 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millitres of blood with the limit being 20 milligrammes. The UK drink driving limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.
Ms MacDonald-Bell pleaded guilty to breaching the Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003 at Uxbridge Magistrates Court on June 9. She was fined £2000 and ordered to pay £85 costs. A spokesman for BA said that she had resigned her position as cabin crew after the incident.
