Heathrow Airport has released its sustainability performance report 2010 showing its performance on the environmental measures. Targets were achieved for CO2 emissions and air quality, however, those for waste, water consumption and quality were missed.
The airport's target to reduce CO2 emissions from energy consumption by 1.4% from 2009 levels was exceeded with a reduction of 3.6%. On air quality the aim was to meet 85% APU compliance, and 91% APU compliance was achieved.
Although the company's performance on construction waste was good against the targets set, with the 96% of construction waste recycled, a general and landscaped waste recycling target of 50% was missed by 12%. The airport acknowledged that it needs to do more in certain areas such as waste recycling.
