18.03.11
Laing O’Rourke has won the contract to build a giant new multi-storey car park at Heathrow Terminal Two with a £77m bid, the Construction Enquirer reports. Construction of the 1,340-space car park along with associated roads and ramps is expected to start in May.
The contract includes a covered court formed by an extension of the main terminal building’s signature ‘wave’ roof and links to the car park. When open in 2014 this area will form the main point of entry and exit for all passengers. Departing and arriving passengers will cross bridges that span the court, and it is also where lifts and escalators from the existing rail stations will be located.
The car park forms part of the of the overall £2.2bn Terminal 2 development that includes the main building; associated satellite pier, and a new cooling station and energy centre.
