Pilots question Government aviation policy
17.10.11
Over 9 out of 10 UK pilots have said that the Government is not doing enough to support the aviation industry, according to a new report from the British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA), the pilot's union. In a poll of 10,000 of its members, 91% questioned the coalition's commitment to aviation.
BALPA general secretary Jim McAuslan said he hoped new transport secretary Justine Greening will develop a stronger partnership with the airline industry after taking on the post from Philip Hammond on Friday. He said: ‘Coming from her previous role, as economic secretary to the Treasury, Ms Greening will no doubt have a better insight into the UK's finances than most. We hope she will understand the importance of allowing industries to prosper and deliver valuable growth.’
He urged the new secretary of state to review the Air Passenger Duty, describing it as a ‘poll tax of the skies’.
