BA / Qantas boost alliance to offer better Heathrow – Australia connections
16.08.11
Qantas and British Airways have boosted long-standing joint services agreement (JSA) partnership on flights connecting Heathrow and Australia via Singapore. The new deal will see BA increase capacity on its service between Heathrow and Sydney by swapping its current Boeing 777 aircraft for the larger Boeing 747.
In addition, the airlines will switch route operations on flights to Bangkok and Hong Kong, with BA taking on the routes from Heathrow and Qantas flying to the cities from Australia. BA will also increase its frequency on the Hong Kong route from 14 flights a week to 17.
The two oneworld alliance partners will join forces to build and operate a new lounge at Singapore’s Changi airport to place the city as their main connecting hub. The airlines will also further align their timetables to offer better transfer times between services, including onward connections to Sydney and Melbourne for UK passengers.
Alan Joyce, CEO of Qantas, said: ‘The new approach is a smarter use of both airlines’ resources and will enhance our competitive position in Asia and in the Australia-Europe market’.
