EU – US open skies talks launch
16.05.08
The European Union and the United States launched talks on yesterday6 on liberalising transatlantic aviation, with the UK and British airlines pushing for greater freedoms including the ability to buy US airlines and US politicians thought likely to oppose this.
The second round of ‘Open Skies’ discussions builds on an agreement that came in to force in March. Zoltan Kazatsay from the European Commission's Directorate for Energy and Transport said: ‘The European Union has one clear political goal, we want to establish an open aviation area between the US and the EU.'
