Burst tyre closed Heathrow runway

The northern runway of Heathrow had to be closed for 20 minutes yesterday after an aircraft arriving at the airport burst a tyre on landing. The incident occurred when the aircraft operated by Ethiopian Airlines landed on the runway at 11:10. The runway was closed until 11:30 whilst an inspection took place.
A spokeswoman for the airport said: ‘The aircraft made a routine safe landing, exited the runway and passengers disembarked. The runway was closed for 20 minutes as a precautionary safety measure while an inspection was carried out.’ She said closing of the runway had no impact on travel at the airport.
