15.12.11
Today marks the start of the pre-Christmas rush at Heathrow, as more than 780,000 passengers pass through its terminals over the next four days. The airport is forecasting that today (Thursday December 15) will be its busiest day, with more than 203,300 people either heading back home or jetting abroad for Christmas. To prepare for the busiest weekend of the Christmas period, the airport has posted additional customer service staff at check-in, and also re-introduced family lanes and pre-flight play areas.
Around 3.35 million passengers in total will pass through Heathrow during the Christmas school holidays (December 16 to January 3), with December 23 expected to see the most arrivals into Heathrow, with 35,000 passengers scheduled to fly into Terminal 5 alone.
Normand Boivin, COO at Heathrow, said: ‘The flight before Christmas is for many the most important flight of the year. At Heathrow we’ve pulled out all the stops to ensure our passengers have a smooth journey and very merry Christmas.’
