Virgin report Heathrow passenger boost
15.05.08
Virgin Atlantic has announced improved passenger numbers at Heathrow Airport. With BA trying to overcome the shambolic Heathrow Terminal 5 opening, Virgin says that its new Terminal 3 (T3) facility attracted thousands of new passengers.
Virgin's new facility opened last December and passenger numbers increased 4% last month, compared to a 7.9% fall at BA, with the airline's first-class numbers rising 10% (compared to 3.4% at BA).
Steve Ridgway, the Virgin Atlantic chief executive, said: ‘Passengers are voting with their feet and switching to us in their droves. These results are in stark contrast to the shambles from a certain other airline.’
The airline's Upper Class Wing introduced a private security corridor for the airline's premium passengers - typically taking just eight minutes to travel from their limos to the Virgin lounge. ‘The success of the new T3 is clear - big is not beautiful,’ Mr Ridgway added.
