Heathrow mixed mode trials see campaign group membership rise
13.11.11
Campaign group Hacan Clearskies said it has seen a sudden surge in residents wanting to join after Heathrow Airport started trails that will see it use both runways simultaneously if planes are running 10 minutes late. BAA hopes the measures would cut delays and reduce the number of night flights.
John Stewart, founder and chairman of Hacan Clearskies, said: ‘Residents are very concerned indeed about these trials. This ‘10 minute rule’ could effectively destroy the respite period which is a life-saver for so many people. Not since the height of the third runway campaign have so many new people been keen to join us.’
Tim Hardy, director of airside operations at Heathrow, has urged the airport’s neighbours to come forward with any concerns.
