Air Canada flight ‘rejected takeoff’ at Heathrow
13.08.11
A Toronto-bound Air Canada flight was forced to abort taking off at Heathrow Airport yesterday due to a technical problem, CBC News reports. The pilot on Flight AC859 ‘rejected’ takeoff after a warning light on the Boeing 767 came on while the plane was travelling about 140 km/h.
A passenger told CBC News the plane was going ‘full throttle’ and appeared ready to take off when it abruptly ‘screeched to a halt.’ The plane returned to the gate under its own power and the 210 passengers disembarked.
The passengers were put up in airport hotels and the flight has been rescheduled for 09:00 UK time today. An Air Canada spokesperson said rejecting a takeoff is ‘quite rare.’
