BAA boss sees salary increase by £151,000

Colin Matthews, chief executive of airport operator BAA, saw his pay increase from £820,000 in 2009 to £971,000 for the year ending 2010, PA reports. BAA said it had ceased making contributions to the company's pension scheme on his behalf and that equivalent cash payments made to him were included in the £971,000 figure.
After the snow chaos at Heathrow, where the bad weather led to chaos during the pre-Christmas getaway, Mr Matthews said he would forego his annual bonus for 2010. This figure was believed to be in the region of £400,000 to £500,000, so the salary could have been far higher than the £971,000.
BAA said: ‘Colin Matthews' basic salary increased by 3.6% in 2010. The numbers in the accounts reflect the fact that since April 2010, pension payments are paid directly to Mr Matthews and no longer to his pension scheme.’
