New BA boss hopeful cabin crew dispute can be settled

British Airways, new Chief Executive Officer, Keith Williams, said he is hopeful the two- year dispute with cabin crew can be settled after the airline’s pilots approved a two year agreement that includes a pay raise, Bloomberg reports. The pilot deal won support from 95 percent of those voting. After a 4 percent pay rise in the first year, compensation in the second year will be determined by productivity.
The deal is a boost for Mr Williams, CEO since January after former boss Willie Walsh moved up to the top job at the combined BA / Iberia group, as he tries to resolve the long running and bitter dispute with the airlines 12,000 cabin crew. He said he met yesterday with Len McCluskey, general secretary of the Unite union, which is polling members about renewing their walkout. The ‘positive’ meeting was aimed at finding a way to return to talks in the two-year disagreement over pay, working practices and the treatment of strikers.
