A Northamptonshire pensioner has been jailed for five years for attempting to smuggle almost £100,000 worth of heroin into Britain via Heathrow Airport. David Pryor, 73, was sentenced this week at Isleworth Crown Court after he admitted trying to import the Class A drug.
Mr Pryor, of Priory Road, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, was arrested on September 5 last year when he arrived at Heathrow's Terminal 5 on a flight from Tanzania. Officers found around four kilos of the drug concealed in three wicker baskets in his suitcase. He had been paid £4,520 to bring the drugs into the country, the court heard.
In addition to the jail sentence, Judge Anne Molyneux also imposed a travel restriction order, prohibiting Mr Pryor from leaving the UK for two years, starting from his release date.
