Snow causes flight chaos across UK
05.02.12
Heavy snow has brought disruption to a number of airports, with flight cancellations across the UK. Heathrow operator BAA announced yesterday that it would cancel one-third of today's approximately 1,200 flights to ‘minimise disruption’. British Airways said it will allow passengers scheduled to fly on Sunday to re-book for journeys between Monday and Thursday.
Passengers flying from Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports today have been advised to contact their airline before setting off to confirm their flight is operating. At Luton Airport 10cm of snow fell overnight and its runway was closed for a period, causing three departing flights to be cancelled.
Stansted Airport closed last night for a period to clear snow from its runway, while Birmingham Airport reopened after snow was cleared from the runway. Leeds Bradford Airport has warned of delays or cancellations and Robin Hood Airport was closed today while snow was cleared from the runway.
