BA to add first class seats to all Australian flights
04.10.11
All British Airways flights to and from Australia will have the airline’s new first class cabin by next March. BA is finalising installation of the new premium class seats and suites on its fleet of Boeing 747-400s, which will become BA’s dedicated aircraft type on routes to Australia.
Created at a cost of ₤100 million, the new first class cabin features a redesigned suite (or pod) with a bed 60 percent wider than the current seat and Egyptian cotton bed linen. Each suite also has its own personal wardrobe, a leather-bound writing desk that converts into a dining table, a 15-inch in-flight entertainment screen and a 'buddy seat' that allows passengers to dine in pairs. Other features include mood lighting, a USB port, RCA jack, an electronic window blind, and noise-cancelling headsets, as well as an Anya Hindmarch washbag.
BA currently operates Boeing 747s on its daily Sydney - Bangkok - Heathrow services and Boeing 777s on the daily Sydney - Singapore - Heathrow flights. The Sydney - Bangkok service will be discontinued early next year, with Qantas taking over that leg, and the 747 used on this sector being switched to Sydney - Singapore - Heathrow route. The new first class cabin will also be offered on BA’s daily Boeing 747 and 777 connecting flights from Hong Kong.
