BA passengers down 4.9%

British Airways saw passenger numbers drop by 4.9 percent last month compared to a year earlier, to 2.93m. Africa and Middle East Passengers were up 0.9 percent to 0.3m, and the Asia Pacific region suffered the biggest percentage drop, down 16.8 percent to 0.14m. UK / European passengers were down 5.8 percent (to 1.8m) and Americas passengers down 2.3 percent (0.7m).
The airline's passenger capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometres, was 1.7 percent down last month compared to a year earlier. Its passenger traffic, measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres, fell by 3.8 percent., which resulted in a passenger load factor decrease of 1.8 points compared to last year, to 79.6 percent. The airline suffered a 14.9 percent decrease in premium traffic and a 1.3 percent fall in non-premium traffic. Cargo, measured in Cargo Tonne Kilometres, fell by 9.8 percent.
The airline said in a statement that market conditions continue to be very challenging, with trading at levels well below last year. However on an underlying basis both premium and non-premium volumes and seat factors have now been stable for more than 3 months.
