Heathrow wins corporate responsibility award
03.07.11
Heathrow has been recognised for its outstanding corporate responsibility and the positive impact it has on the communities around the airport. The airport has achieved Gold status in Business in the Community's (BITC) 2011 Corporate Responsibility Index.
BITC is the UK's leading voluntary measure of how responsibly organisations work in their local communities and the award recognises Heathrow's good practice in measuring and reporting of environmental and social performance and targets. Stephen Howard, chief executive of BITC, said: ‘I congratulate Heathrow Airport on achieving Gold in the 2011 BITC Corporate Responsibility Index.'
In addition, two Heathrow initiatives received coveted Big Ticks in BITC's annual Excellence Awards. The Heathrow Commuter team, which encourages staff working at the airport to choose a more sustainable and cheaper way to travel to work, were awarded their first Big Tick, and Heathrow's Retail Academy, which aims to help local unemployed residents access retail jobs and further training, was awarded its third Big Tick.
