MP says Boris Island airport ‘being considered’
01.12.11
Plans for a new airport in the South East are being considered by the Government, Kent MP Michael Fallon, who is deputy chairman of the Conservative Party and MP for Sevenoaks, said. He said the government was ‘looking seriously at the proposals' as Heathrow is already full and Gatwick would reach capacity in the next few years.
The idea of a four runway airport on the Isle of Grain, which could handle 150m passengers a year, was outlined by architect Lord Foster last month. The Thames Hub airport would have high-speed rail connections to London, the Midlands and northern England as well as continental Europe and links to key ports. Lord Foster's plans also includes a new Thames barrier for flood protection and generating carbon-free energy from the tide.
