Aviation included in EU Emissions Trading Scheme (tax)
01.01.12
New rules that come into force today will mean UK passengers will have to pay for the environmental damage caused by pollution from air travel for the first time. Aviation businesses are included within the EU Emission Trading Scheme from today.
The scheme aims to cut climate change from all flights that arrive at or depart from an EU airport - even those operated by non EU airlines. Airlines have to buy carbon permits for 15 percent of every flight’s emissions, with the percentage increasing each year.
