No objections to Guernsey Airport runway inquiry
20.09.09
Guernsey's environment minister, Peter Sirett, has revealled he has 'no objections' to a planning inquiry into proposed changes to the airport runway. The department has said it plans to move the runway west, removing a lane and filling a valley. It said it did not require planning permission because it came under the terms of the rural area plan.
States Deputy Al Brouard said the proposals ‘conflicted directly’ with the plan and has called for an inquiry. Some nearby residents have also said their health and safety could be affected by the change. But Deputy Sirett said such concerns should be addressed to the CAA and added that, if people felt strongly about the plans, they should encourage their deputies to make a case in the States.
