Workers campaign to save Glasgow Airport bakery

Glasgow Airport workers have launched a campaign to save their favourite bargain bakers shop at the terminal from being force to close, the Daily Record reports. Greggs the Bakers are being booted out of the airport later this year after they failed to negotiate a new contract, but airport workers have launched a campaign on social networking site Facebook calling on airport owners BAA to ‘get your hands off our buns' !
The people behind the campaign have accused airport owner BAA of forcing out the only affordable food outlet. One told the newspaper: ‘Staff have nowhere affordable to eat. Most of the baggage handlers and ground handling agents are on minimum wage and can't afford premium prices that other outlets in the airport charge. The only options are Boots meal deals and Greggs.'
‘We suspect this is a deliberate move by BAA to force people to pay more. Greggs wanted to expand in the airport and attract more customers, but BAA like outlets to improve the airport. Greggs, it seems, are too working class.’
A spokeswoman for Greggs confirmed they had been served notice by BAA Glasgow airport to close their shop from July 31. Greggs retail director Raymond Reynolds told the Record: ‘We loved being part of Glasgow airport. The shop has traded superbly since it opened in 2007, providing thousands of people with great quality food at great value prices. We have been in negotiation with airport management for the past six months in the hope of finding an alternative unit to trade from.'
A spokesman for Glasgow Airport confirmed Greggs would be leaving but declined to comment further.
