Direct Glasgow – Iceland flights take off
21.09.11
Direct flights have taken off between Glasgow and Reykjavik, Iceland after Icelandair axed its flights from Manchester. The airline last operated a direct Glasgow route three years ago, but schedules were changed in November 2008, when the airline decided to fly passengers to Glasgow via Manchester.
The move was welcomed by Glasgow Airport’s commercial director, Francois Bourienne, who said: ‘Icelandair’s re-introduction of direct flights to Reykjavik is great news for our customers. It will significantly reduce the travel time both to Iceland and onwards to North America. I have every confidence it will prove successful and help boost passenger numbers.’
Icelandair’s new flights from Glasgow will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Thousands of Scots fly each year to the Icelandic capital to catch connecting flights to Halifax and Toronto in Canada and a number of US cities including Boston, New York, Orlando and Washington DC. Next year Denver will be added to the list of US destinations.
