New roadworks near Glasgow Airport
21.09.08
Glasgow Airport travellers are facing four weeks of disruption whilst a £180,000 bridge barrier is replaced on the busy M8. The work, at Junction 26 Hillington, will affect east and westbound carriageways of the motorway, and drivers are being advised to consider their travel plans carefully during this month and October.
The bridge barrier safety project is expected to last four weeks and will be complete on October 17. The scheme, managed by Amey on behalf of Transport Scotland, will see more than 700ft of barrier being replaced along the edge of the bridge, which will help reduce the risk of vehicles blocking the railway line below if there is a crash on the motorway.
The roadworks are close to the Hillington Interchange, Braehead Shopping Centre, Braehead Arena, Xscape, Ikea and Glasgow Airport. 18,000 drivers who use the junction every day.
Throughout the project, hard shoulder and lane closures will be in place on both carriageways.
Westbound off-slips and the eastbound on-ramp will also close during this time to ensure the area is safe for site workers.
