Scotland's airport operators have been invited to a forum with Transport Minister Keith Brown to review winter weather resilience in a bid to ensure 'Scotland stays open for business during periods of extreme weather', the Evening Times reports. The operators of Prestwick, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen airports plus Highlands & Islands Airports, have been invited together with the Civil Aviation Authority, the aviation regulatory body.
The Minister met with Kevin Brown, managing director Edinburgh Airport, yesterday to discuss the winter response and develop an airports winter resilience action programme. He said: ‘This meeting with BAA provided a useful insight into challenges during severe weather and generated some actions for us to pursue for continued improvements to our winter resilience response.'
‘Staff throughout the country have worked extremely hard over recent months to keep our transport networks open and it is vital we are able to keep Scotland moving. By keeping our transport networks open we can continue to attract people to Scotland to do business as well as promote Scotland's many winter visitor attractions.'
‘We must work together to continually improve our winter resilience response. A forum for airport operators across Scotland will share key knowledge and expertise across our transport network and will help lay the foundations for future winter preparations.'
