Passenger panic at Jet2 Glasgow landing problems
17.09.11
Passengers on a flight into Glasgow Airport were terrified when the plane needed three attempts to land, the Evening Times reports. The Jet2 flight from Alicante made two aborted bids to touch down, each time getting within 100 feet of the runway before charging the engines to head upwards again.
Finally, when the plane landed at the third attempt, the pilot said there had been a fault with the landing equipment. Five fire engines and other emergency vehicles were scrambled to meet the plane. Passengers on the flight told the newspaper that some people were crying and others were sick. The plane taxied as normal to the stand.
An airline spokesman said: ‘We can confirm that flight LS178 from Alicante to Glasgow circled twice before landing due to a minor technical fault with the landing gear. The aircraft landed safely at 15.35 [30 minutes later than scheduled]. We apologise to our passengers for any inconvenience this may have caused.’
