Snow sees Glasgow Airport report worst passenger figures for 5 years
14.01.11
Glasgow Airport has suffered its worst passenger figures in five years, the Evening Times reports. Snow blizzards and treacherous ice triggered flights chaos across the UK in the coldest December in decades, and although Glasgow’s runway was only shut for only a few hours, the freezing conditions and closures at other airports in the UK and across Europe meant it lost more than 76,000 passengers.
Domestic flights dropped 22.2%, while international flights in and out of Glasgow dipped just 2.6%. This meant the airport handled 359,996 passengers when officials had hoped more than 436,000 would have passed through the terminal.
