Glasgow Airport passengers up for seventh month in a row

Passenger numbers at Glasgow Airport are up for the seventh month in a row – a run which has not happened in six years. In July almost 800,000 people passed through the terminal, with strong demand for long haul and European scheduled flights and extra capacity on some existing routes were the biggest causes.
Amanda McMillan, airport managing director, said: ‘July is traditionally one of our busiest months. Our charter airlines all reported a growth in passenger numbers and demand for long haul flights, particularly to the US, was very strong. Throughout July we continued to work with our airline partners to expand our route network and this resulted in the addition of two of Europe’s most popular capital cities – Madrid and Rome – to our list of destinations.'
‘Not since 2005 have we been able to report seven consecutive months of passenger growth and while we are encouraged by our performance to date we do, as always, remain cautious. Our domestic performance has continued to feel the effect of BMI’s decision to withdraw its Glasgow to Heathrow service. This highlights the importance of having some form of route development support that would allow us to attract new airlines and secure routes to other European hubs.’
