easyJet flight cancelled – because pilot didn’t have licence
31.07.08
Passengers found their easyJet flight was cancelled – because the pilot’s licence had run out, the Sun reports. The administrative fiasco came as 200 holidaymakers were set to fly from Gatwick to Gran Canaria. The newspaper reports that many were then told there would be a 5 day wait wait before the airline could find alternative seats.
Sarah Milton, 42, who was off on a two-week break with husband Greg, 36, and three relatives, told the Sun: ‘We were absolutely disgusted.’ The family paid £89.99 a head for Monday evening’s flight from Gatwick to Las Palmas. They were told there was ‘no crew’ and the next available flight was Saturday, so they paid £3,090 to fly with another airline yesterday.
An easyJet spokesman apologised for the ‘administration error’ that meant the pilot’s licence had not been renewed. He said: ‘Some passengers were accommodated next day but due to limited availability others were transferred to Saturday’s flight.’ Passengers will get a refund if they did not fly or can claim out-of-pocket expenses.
