BAA make £164m from airport parking

The path from airport terminal to plane seat is full of revenue generating opportunities. In 2007, the 150 million passengers who used BAA's seven UK airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Southampton) contributed to a net retail income of £490m the FT reports.
The biggest proportion came from airport parking, which generated £164m. Airside specialist shops, meanwhile, saw the biggest increase in income - up 8.4 percent from 2006. The average spend per passenger, at £3.27, seems low. But the newspaper compares this to Naples, also owned by BAA, for comparison: there, average spend was a mere £1.90.
