Gatwick Express disruption this winter
25.08.08
The Gatwick Express train service - the dedicated train link between Gatwick Airport and Victoria Station in central London - will be disrupted this winter by engineering work. A number of peak time trains will be withdrawn from October 25 to November 3 when work is carried out on a two mile section of line between Redhill and Purley around the Merstham Tunnel.
Some services on the non-stop link will be axed to allow Southern trains to run from Redhill via Earlswood in the path of a number of Gatwick Express trains, which will be withdrawn. A Gatwick Express spokesman said: ‘We have to do these works roughly every two to three years. Services will be half-hourly, instead of every 15 minutes for roughly one and a half hours every afternoon and morning.’
The changes mean the Gatwick Express will run from Victoria at 06:15, 06:45, 07:15 and 07:45 each morning before reverting to the normal 15-minute frequency. In the evening, they will run from London at 16:45, 17:15, 17:45 and 18:15.
From Gatwick, the alterations mean there will be trains leaving at 07:05, 07:35, 08:05 and 08:35 each morning and again at 17:35, 18:05, 18:35 and 19:05 before normal service is resumed.
In addition travellers to Gatwick on Southern’s Victoria - Brighton stopping service will have their journey lengthened on both Sundays during the period as trains will stop additionally at Purley and Horley.
