Gatwick hotel staff help with early arrival

Staff at the Gatwick Sofitel Hotel had to deal with an unexpected early arrival – when one of their guests went into labour. Shan Joseph, from St Lucia, was at the airport hotel because her flight was delayed, and the 32-year-old went into labour five weeks early.
She was travelling home after completing the final part of a degree in information and library studies at Aberystwyth University. Staff organised for an ambulance to take her to East Surrey Hospital. Staff visited her in hospital after the birth and brought her back to the hotel, where she stayed with her new-born son free of charge for nearly a week, until she was fit enough to return home, and her baby had a passport!
