Firefighters were called to the Travel Lodge in Lowfield Heath at 12:00 on Friday August 8 after guests reported a 'strong smell of gas'. The whole hotel was evacuated so that firefighters wearing breathing apparatus could track down the source of the leak.
Using hand held gas detectors the firefighters traced the gas to a room on the second floor. The fire service identified an air conditioning unit in a second floor room as the source. Guests were allowed back in to the hotel at 13:00 but the second floor was out of use until the air conditioning unit was fixed.
