Heathrow problems see first A380 land at Gatwick and movements record
15.08.08
A regular reader who works at Gatwick Airport tells us that he is 'amazed there has been no mention of the very first visit of an A380 to Gatwick on the evening of August 10 - surely a notable occasion for any airport?'
The reader tells us that airport workers who were lucky to have witnessed the diversion in of a Singapore Airlines superjumbo due to the emergency evacuation of Heathrow's control tower (because of fire alarms) have been talking about it for days. Sunday was also noticeable for the fact that Gatwick broke its own record for daily movements (now standing at 894) thanks in part to the 15 other diversions that came in from Heathrow that day.
