Continental drops Gatwick flights
10.09.08
Continental Airlines is dropping its services from Gatwick to Newark and Houston as it focuses on flights from Heathrow. The airline will end the Gatwick flights on October 26, when it will also start a third-daily flight between Heathrow and Newark. It will also continue its twice daily Heathrow-Houston service.
A spokesman for Continental said the shift to Heathrow was a response to ‘changing realities’. Jim Compton, executive vice-president marketing, said: ‘Our customers have shown a clear preference for Heathrow, and our main competitors have focused their operations there.'
The spokesman said it planned to continue with its summer-only service between Gatwick and Cleveland, Ohio. The airline will also continue its codeshare on several Virgin Atlantic-operated flights from Heathrow and Gatwick.
