Holiday price war as Thomson offer accommodation for £2 a night

Holidaymakers can book self-catering accommodation in Greece or Turkey for just £14 a week this winter. Even the popular family-friendly Balearic island of Menorca is available for £4 a night or £28 for a week.
The deals - which do not include flights - are for studio or one-bedroom apartments from Thomson Holidays for dates in October. All of the properties offered have luxury communal swimming pools and are near beaches. All are either in two-star or three-star graded accommodation.
A Thomson spokesman said: ‘Like all businesses, we occasionally run targeted marketing initiatives to promote small pockets of availability. While this is a genuine offer which some of our customers will benefit from, it is a one-off promotion to promote a few selected hotels and is in no way indicative of current trading for the group or overall market.'
Although the cheap holiday deals come without flights, budget airlines such as easyJet and Ryanair, plus Turkish airline OnurAir and some charter flight operators, have cut prices flights available to some of the destinations on offer.
According to press reports, other holiday firms are gearing up to copy the cut price offers for getaways this autumn.
