Haggis amnesty at Edinburgh Airport
20.01.09
Passengers flying from Edinburgh Airport are to be given a free meal as part of a haggis amnesty this weekend. The Hilton hotel Edinburgh Airport is giving passengers the opportunity to swap their uncooked haggis for a traditional Burns Supper of haggis, neeps and tatties with a 'wee dram' of whisky.
Most visitors to Scotland are unaware of the restrictions on exporting meat home and could have haggis taken off them when they arrive at their home country. Now they will be able to swap their haggis contraband for a real taste of Scotland as they hand in their haggis before check-in.
Travellers are being asked to present their airline tickets or proof of travel plus haggis to staff to receive their haggis amnesty deal at Hilton Edinburgh Airport's restaurant. The amnesty runs over Friday, Saturday and Sunday and there is a shuttle bus service from the airport to the hotel.
Michael Squire, general manager at the Hilton Edinburgh Airport, said: ‘Haggis is an icon in Scotland, and we want to allow everyone visiting the country to have had the chance to sample the Bard's namesake dish for Burns night.’
