Passengers evacuated from smoking plane at Edinburgh Airport
18.06.09
There were dramatic scenes at Edinburgh Airport yesterday when passengers were evacuated from a smoking plane. The crew and 24 passengers rushed from the Loganair aircraft after one of its engines began smoking just minutes before it was due to take-off. The flight had been bound for the Isle of Man.
A spokesperson for Loganair, a Flybe franchise (so some press reports suggest that it was a Flybe plane / flight) said: ‘The engines and electrical systems were immediately shut down as a precautionary measure, the 24 passengers and three crew were evacuated. We would like to offer sincere apologies to customers whose journeys have been disrupted by this incident.’
