New Edinburgh Airport hotel planned
17.07.10
A proposal for the development of a 168 bedroom, four-star hotel on site at Edinburgh Airport has been submitted, the Scotsman reports. There is a shortage of available rooms for passengers using the airport, and the new hotel will offer conferencing venues as well as accommodation, which could boost passenger numbers as people fly in to attend events at the hotel.
The new airport hotel, planned by Scottish construction company Vinanian Developments, will be situated off the main approach from the A8 Glasgow Road. Architects Young and Gault, who designed the building, said that it will include ‘an exciting new restaurant, leisure facilities and extensive conference facilities, thus responding to the increasing demand for quality bedrooms and business services close to Edinburgh Airport’.
The hotel, which will be opposite the Hilton, will include a series of conferencing venues from ‘intimate syndicate rooms’ to a huge banqueting hall with space for up to 700 people. Vinanian has yet confirmed if it has a brand lined up to operate the hotel.
