Man fined over Edinburgh Airport rage
17.06.08
The brother-in-law of former First Minister Jack McConnell has been fined for a foul-mouthed rant at Edinburgh Airport staff. Robert McLuckie, was drinking white wine while waiting for his delayed Flyglobespan flight from the airport before losing his temper with ground staff and police.
Mr McLuckie, aged 47, of Muireston House, Livingston, was arrested for a breach of the peace and appeared at the city's Sheriff Court yesterday after spending a night in the cells. He admitted acting in a disorderly manner in the Terminal Building at Edinburgh Airport in the early hours of that morning by shouting and swearing.
Fiscal Depute Neil Allan said his flight had been due to leave at 16:30 on Sunday, but was delayed until the early hours of Monday. As the delay went on he approached an airport employee at the departure gate and began shouting and swearing. Attempts to calm him down failed, the police were called and he was arrested.
The defence agent said his client had been drinking while waiting for the flight. At 23:00 passengers were asked to move from one end of the airport to the other, but the plane was still not there and Mr McLuckie lost his cool. He added that his client had no previous convictions, was a regular flier and planned to write to Flyglobespan staff to say sorry.
Mr McLuckie is the director of a company which provided care homes for the elderly and dealt in property. He does not receive a salary, but received share dividends of between £100,000 and £1m a year. He was fined £200 and given 28 days to pay, which should not be a problem given his income levels.
(The aircraft eventually took off at 01:20 yesterday, in case you were interested).
