An Edinburgh Airport worker has admitted stealing more than £6000 worth of duty-free goods then selling them over the internet. Richard Somerville stole make-up, sunglasses, watches, gifts, jewellery and computer memory cards from the World Duty Free shop at the airport then sold them on the internet auction site eBay.
Airport bosses called in police after investigating the missing items and Mr Somerville, 42, confessed he had sold some of the items on eBay. He admitted stealing £6090 worth of goods between September 2006 and August 2007 at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
The court was told the first offender had been in financial difficulties at the time but had now taken out a loan to repay the value of goods he took. Sentencing was deferred to allow Mr Somerville, of Rowan Grove, Livingston, to bring a cheque for the full amount to court next month.
