Passengers up 14.3% at East Midlands Airport

Passenger numbers at East Midlands Airport are up for the eighth consecutive month, with August passengers up 14% to 598,757 and year to date (January to August) up by 17% (to 3,651,451). Palma was the airports favourite European getaway destination in August, closely followed by Dublin, Alicante and Malaga.
In August domestic passengers were up by 4% to 67,835 - 11% of the total - whilst international scheduled passengers were up by 30.7% to 322,737 - 54% of the total. Charter flight passengers fell by 1.8% to 208,185 - 35% of the total - reflecting a continuing decline in the packaged holiday market.
A spokesman for the airport said that it is looking forward to a busy winter season with new routes including Goa, Scandinavian destinations of Copenhagen (Denmark), Oslo (Norway) and Stockholm (Sweden) and the winter ski destination Innsbruck.
