East Midlands Airport miss knife in hand luggage – twice
19.09.08
A mum of two accidentally smuggled a knife on to a holiday flight from East Midlands Airport - despite twice being scanned by security, the Sun reports. Sarah Hopkins, 45, of Solihull, realised she had left the 3in blade kitchen knife in her hand luggage as she boarded the Ryanair flight to Tenerife.
She told the newspaper: ‘I had gone through the detector twice. They frisked me and made me take off my shoes. Security were asking me to empty bottles of liquid but they still didn’t find this knife. It’s unbelievable they missed it.’
G4S, which operates security at East Midlands Airport, said: ‘We take any alleged breaches of security very seriously.’
