East Midlands Airport hold ‘big green week’
19.10.11
East Midlands Airport has held their fifth annual Big Green Week, which celebrated the environmental projects delivered in the last 12 months. During the week employees took part in a carbon war, competing to win the title of the greenest team and enjoyed daily events that involved learning about the effects of climate change and the airport's projects to date.
The airport is keen to promote the latest environmental projects and the steps that it is taking to meet its commitment for ground operations to be carbon neutral by 2012. The week allowed managers to tell employees and business partners how they can reduce energy consumption, create renewable energy and be more sustainable both at home and at work.
During the week employees were involved in a number of activities including travel makeovers, which highlighted sustainable travel options available to airport staff, saving them time and money, whilst reducing carbon emissions. The week also included ‘Tea at the Turbines’, an event featuring tea, scones and tours of the first commercial scale wind turbines at a UK airport.
