Weather hits Birmingham and East Midlands Airport

Air passengers experienced delays at both Birmingham and East Midlands Airport this morning due to frozen runways. Both airports shut their runways for about an hour from 06:30 for them to be deiced.
More than a dozen flights took off later than planned at the airports, with the closure affected flights both into and out of the hubs. One flight at East Midlands Airport was delayed for two hours, however a spokeswoman said: ‘It was a short-term closure to all traffic and there have been some short knock-on delays.’ Both expected to clear the backlog of flights by the afternoon.
