Safety fears over wind farm near Durham Tees Valley Airport

Villagers opposing a wind farm near their homes have expressed fears over air traffic safety. Residents of Hilton village, near Yarm in Durham, believe the turbines could cause problems for aircraft flying in and out of Durham Tees Valley Airport.
Broadview Energy is proposing to build up to five 125m turbines between Seamer and Hilton, near the A19. However, a campaigner from Hilton village said: ‘Wind turbines within the safeguarded area can affect the radar. The primary concern is the safety of passengers.’
Broadview Energy Managing director Jeff Corrigan, has said the company will look to see what impact the proposed wind farm will have on the airport.
